The Film 'Together' Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for partners in committed relationships who enjoy the horror genre: Sit down with your loved one and stream Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. At first glance, it could look like typical biological terror, but beneath Together lies a deep meditation about our choices in loving each other.

An Introductory Film Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together represents the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, partners that have stayed together for a decade. Having wed in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a unique chemistry to their roles, expertly portraying both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The story starts when Tim and Millie relocate from the metropolis to the country for her career. A commonly used plot device, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the cliches cease. Together transforms into as much a psychological exploration of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While walking near their new home, a tempest descends, and the two tumble into an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity begins influencing the pair. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a slow burn of scares, weaving in moments of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but never too gross) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes during something horrific). Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and delivers them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Nuanced Portrayals

A large part of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is waning due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to focus on anything other than his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and distant from his social circle. He fears the idea of totally forfeiting his sense of self in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he lacks a driver's license and is dependent on Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision is that he refrains from painting either of his characters the definite antagonist.

Both characters grapple with the sort of issues that come with most partnerships a decade in. Fundamentally, they continue to care for one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these concerns of codependency and fully committing to another person, the symbolism avoids being overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that single viewers have seen the movie as a strong argument for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film actually helped them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could function as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion sow anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply look at your significant other and utter, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can embark on today.

Together is currently playing on Hulu as of this moment.
